New Year and sewing room & pattern organization

This is my happy place. And since we are bringing in a new year and a new decade, I actually cleaned my happy place.

My sewing room. I haven’t always had a sewing room. My sewing room has lived in the dining room. A shared office. But when we moved to this home I was so happy that we’d have a guest room that would be a sewing room by day.

I’ve got a makeshift cutting table. A dress form (I call her Dolores). Two tables for my three beloved machines. An ironing board. And next to the ironing board and Dolores is the fabric and pattern closet.

There is a the fabric stash. I have good intentions to work it down, but it also helps to have things on hand for spontaneous creativity and to test patterns. So even when I’m trying to cut back it seems that there is still a lot.

I make a lot of PDF patterns. Sometimes I tape them together from my printed pages and sometimes I get them printed large scale.

And this is how I store the PDF patterns I’ve cut. Sometimes I trace them, sometimes I cut them directly. And I store both kinds of them on rings in the closet with clips to hold them together. Once the stash got pretty unruly I got these colored dividers which help me find patterns that I’m looking for. I

I also have some rolls of paper which are printed A0 files that haven’t been cut yet. (I printed several when PDF Plotting had a sale not long ago.)

These are a few of my favorite things.
